YASNO Energy Efficiency, together with Metinvest Digital, implemented projects for the introduction of modern electricity metering systems at the Central and Northern Mining and Processing Plants.

At the Central and Northern GZK, projects were carried out to implement the Automated Commercial Electricity Metering System (ACEMS) and the Automated Technical Electricity Metering System (ATEMS). The projects were executed by Ukraine's largest ESCO company, YASNO Energy Efficiency, in partnership with Metinvest Digital on an energy service basis.

As is known, with the introduction of the electricity market, the pricing principles for electricity for corporate consumers were changed. It became differentiated by consumption hours. Accordingly, all corporate consumers were divided into two groups: "A" and "B".

The existing equipment at the Central and Northern GZK did not meet the requirements of Group "A," as defined by the Code for Commercial Metering of Electricity. Outdated commercial metering devices lacked the function of remote data transmission, and their accuracy class, as well as the accuracy of current transformers, did not comply with modern standards.

Additionally, the enterprises lacked a sufficient number of technical metering devices. This made it difficult to obtain detailed information on electricity consumption by specific equipment at a given moment in time. All this made it impossible to quickly adjust and forecast electricity consumption, leading to significant electricity costs and the inability to use their own consumption profile (a kind of "portrait" formed based on the volumes and schedules of electricity use over the past three years).

To meet the required conditions and transfer the enterprises from Group "B" to Group "A," experts analyzed the current situation at both plants, developed technical specifications, prepared project and design documentation, agreed it with the Distribution System Operator (DSO), dismantled old systems, and installed new equipment. The new ACEMS and ATEMS systems installed at the enterprises include 263 commercial metering points and 744 technical metering points integrated into the centralized "EnergoCenter" system. As a result, the main goal of both projects was achieved – transferring the enterprises to Group "A" consumers.

Why are such projects important?

The new systems are modern equipment that, combined with innovative software, enables enterprises to quickly obtain information on their consumption for the previous hour, plan their future activities, and utilize their own tariff grid profile to reduce electricity costs.

Another additional advantage of such projects is the ability to order and use imported electricity without halting production during power outages. While everyone can purchase imported electricity, only those with an installed ACEMS, hourly consumption records, and settlement under Group "A" can use it.

"Implementing such projects is a challenge for any company. However, thanks to the combined expertise of YASNO Energy Efficiency and Metinvest Digital specialists, they were not only successfully implemented but also completed quickly and with high quality.

The implementation of modern ACEMS and ATEMS electricity metering systems at the Central and Northern GZK is, without exaggeration, a fundamental project. It enables enterprises to take control of electricity consumption, plan their operations, production schedules, and reduce electricity payment costs. Moreover, it provides an excellent opportunity to analyze the consumption of specific equipment and consider projects for its modernization to more energy-efficient options with lower consumption. Determining the next steps will allow enterprises with decades-long histories to become advanced users of cutting-edge technologies, improving work quality and ensuring savings in time, human resources, energy resources, and costs, as well as reducing the production costs of their products," said Yevhen Tarasyuk, Director of YASNO Energy Efficiency.

"Integration with the EnergoCenter platform creates a unified information space for effective energy resource management. Thanks to the modernization of ACEMS and ATEMS, enterprises gained the ability to carry out precise hourly electricity metering. This not only significantly reduced costs but also enabled the adoption of informed management decisions based on operational data that was previously unavailable. We are proud that such projects help Ukrainian enterprises move forward, achieving new business goals. This collaboration between our companies not only increases production efficiency and product quality but also fundamentally changes the rules of the game in the energy consumption market," said Yuriy Chernetskyi, CEO of Metinvest Digital.
